The national Construction Management Association of America has awarded Sound Transit Construction Management Director Richard (Dick) Sage its annual "Person of the Year" award for industry leaders who have made significant contributions to the profession.

The association says award winners must possess unparalleled leadership skills, a high degree of professionalism and have an outstanding track record of making a difference in the industry. The organization presented the award at its annual industry recognition dinner Tuesday night.

"Dick's thoughtful, professional approach to his work helps maintain a standard of excellence at Sound Transit," said Ahmad Fazel, Executive Director of the Sound Transit Design, Engineering and Construction Management Department.

Sage, in his 15th year with Sound Transit, oversees work on light rail, commuter rail and regional express bus capital construction programs.

Sage has 47 years of experience in construction. During his time with Sound Transit he has played roles in managing major light rail construction projects. Previously he worked 26 years with contractors in the heavy civil/ highway construction industry on tunnels, heavy civil structures, highways and bridges. He also worked for four years in water systems and sewer design and construction surveys. Sage also served for three years as an officer in the United States Army, Engineering Branch.

Sage is a graduate of Michigan State University in Civil Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer and Certified Construction Manager. He is a Committee Member of two Transportation Research Board Committees: Tunnel and Underground Structures and Construction Management. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (life member), the Construction Management Association of America, the Underground Construction Association and the Disputes Resolution Board Foundation.
This is the latest in a string of accolades for Sage. Earlier this year the Puget Sound Engineering Council named him Government Engineer of the Year. In 2013 Sage received the Distinguished Owner Award from the Construction Management Association of America (Pacific Northwest Chapter).
