Public can view designs for preferred alignment and station locations, learn about potential impacts and submit comments

Sound Transit will hold an open house on the potential Tacoma Link Expansion on Wednesday, July 15 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Evergreen State College - Tacoma, 1210 Sixth Ave.

At the open house, participants will have the opportunity to view preliminary designs for the preferred alignment and station locations for expanding the 1.6-mile system to the North Downtown, Hilltop and Stadium districts. Participants will also be able to review environmental documentation and learn about the potential impacts of the project and possible plans for mitigating these impacts.

The 2.4-mile expansion includes expanding the existing operations and maintenance facility on East 25th Street to accommodate the increased number of light rail vehicles that will operate on the expanded system.

An online open house is scheduled for July 13 through 27. Visitors can review materials and provide comments at tacomalink.org.

In 2008, voters approved the Sound Transit 2 ballot measure, which included a funding partnership to expand Tacoma Link. The project is funded by Sound Transit ST2 revenues, Federal Transit Administration grants and a partnership with the City of Tacoma. More grant funding is needed to build the project.
