Sounder trains to run Sunday for Mariners game

Mariners fans can bypass the I-5 northbound closure and other weekend traffic by taking Sound Transit’s popular game day Sounder train to the 1:10 p.m. game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.


The stadium-bound train from the south will depart Lakewood at 10:10 a.m. The stadium-bound train from the north will depart Everett at 10:45 a.m. Return trains depart King Street Station 35 minutes after the game. Both trains will serve all stops along the routes. 


Riders wanting to get to downtown Seattle on Sunday may also want to take advantage of these trains to avoid the northbound I-5 closure.

In addition to Sounder, Sound Transit is operating additional ST Express 574 buses to connect with congestion free Link service at SeaTac/Airport Station. Route 574 will operate every 15 to 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. northbound and 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. southbound. 
Route 574 picks up riders at:

  • SR-512 Park & Ride 
  • Tacoma Dome Station and Park & Ride 
  • Federal Way Transit Center and Park & Ride 
  • Star Lake Freeway Station and Park & Ride
  • Kent/Des Moines Freeway Station and Park & Ride

Sound Transit does not offer paper transfers. Riders transferring between the bus and train will need to use an ORCA Card to avoid paying fare twice. 


Special Sounder service is in addition to regular Link light rail service to and from Safeco Field. Link runs every 10 minutes on Sunday and serves 16 stations at the University of Washington, on Capitol Hill, in downtown Seattle, SODO, Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley, Tukwila and SeaTac. Link’s Stadium and International District stations are a short walk from Safeco Field. 
Many ST Express and King County Metro buses also drop off passengers near the stadium. Link and ST Express bus schedules are available at soundtransit.org/schedule. King County Metro bus schedules can be found at metro.kingcounty.gov/schedules/. 


Fans with a valid Mariners game ticket can ride Link light rail courtesy of the Mariners on game days. Through July 8, game tickets are valid on Link starting three-hours before the first pitch through the end of Link’s regular daily schedule. Regular fares apply for all other Sound Transit services. 


Regular fares apply for Sound Transit Sounder and ST Express. Sounder riders can avoid the lines for the ticket vending machines going home by paying for the return trip with the purchase of a Day Pass. One-way tickets and Day Passes can also be purchased with the Transit GO Ticket app. Another way to skip lines at ticket vending machines is by getting an ORCA card. Cards only cost $5 for adults, plus whatever amount a rider chooses to load in the card’s E-purse or the cost of a pass that is good for unlimited transit trips.
