Work to begin on drilled shafts and columns to support elevated guideway

Sound Transit's contractor is set to begin construction of drilled shafts and columns to support the aerial guideway. Beginning 4 a.m. Monday, July 17 crews will start drilling shafts and installing casings and steel rebar cages. Work will begin near the Bellevue Way and I-90 HOV ramp. This work is expected to continue into the fall at which point a different crew will mobilize and begin forming and pouring the concrete columns.

What to expect:

Roadway closed. The Bellevue Way Southeast to I-90 west HOV ramp will be closed from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Wednesday. Beginning Thursday, July 20th the I-90 west HOV ramp will be closed 24-hours per day for nine consecutive days.

Work Hours. Work is expected to occur from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Beginning Thursday, July 20th, a nine-day closure of the Bellevue Way Southeast HOV ramp will begin. During the nine-day closure, 24-hour work will occur. More info on work during the nine-day closure will be sent in a follow-up construction alert.

Heavy machinery. Cranes, drilling machinery, concrete trucks.

Noise. There will be noise from cranes, drilling machinery and associated equipment during drilling, soil removal and installation of steel rebar cages. There is also potential for low-frequency vibration during drilling.

Trucks. Truck traffic will deliver materials and haul materials offsite.
