Real-time information upgrades coming to Link light rail stations

Publish Date

Link riders at every station in the system can now see real-time train arrival information from the stations’ digital signs on the platforms and at station entrances.

The information, which had previously been available only at the Capitol Hill and University of Washington Link stations, informs riders of the anticipated arrival time for the next three trains.

The upgraded information will be displayed on the digital signs at the entrances, mezzanines and platforms where applicable.

The information for the signs comes from the same source that provides information to the Capitol Hill and University of Washington stations.

In addition, Sound Transit will have the ability to interrupt real-time arrival information to update riders in the event of a service disruption.

This allows for the signs to have more relevant information during those times by displaying specific messages until full service is restored.

This feature can be activated for the entire alignment at once, or at individual stations or groups of stations as needed.

As always, sign up for Link service alerts and be sure to follow @SoundTransit on Twitter where we try our best to keep riders informed with the most current information during service disruptions.

Rider information overhaul

Sound Transit plans to replace all of the current digital signs with a new passenger information system that will improve accuracy, timeliness and readability.

The new system, which will be introduced in 2023, will provide a unified experience across transit modes and communications channels and enhance the agency’s ability to deliver a variety of information.
