Weekend Sounder trains: not just for sports fans

Take the train to Seattle and forget about traffic and parking hassles

Publish Date

Coming from the north or south of Seattle and want to take your kids to the Seattle Aquarium, or an out-of-town guest to Pike Place Market and the Space Needle?

We all know driving to Seattle can be tough on weekends, not to mention the cost of parking.

But there is another way.

A crowd wearing Mariners gear departs a Sounder train at King Street Station.

Sound Transit runs Sounder trains from Lakewood and Everett to many weekend day games when the Mariners, Sounders FC or Seahawks are in town.

You don’t have to attend the game to ride the train – take the opportunity to explore Seattle for a few hours without having to drive!

Sounder arrives at King Street Station in historic Pioneer Square and is across the street from the International District-Chinatown Station for easy access to Link light rail.

From there you can head uptown, to Capitol Hill, or the University of Washington. Hop off Link at Westlake Station and take the Monorail to the Seattle Center!

Or hang out in the Chinatown-International District for dim sum, sushi or the Wing Luke Museum, or check out Occidental Square Park and local restaurants in Pioneer Square

How to ride

Check the calendar.

Check the Sound Transit events calendar to see when we’re running special game trains.

Upcoming dates include March 4, March 18, April 2, April 8, April 16, April 23, and many more.

The calendar will tell you what time the train leaves your station and when it will return (usually 35 minutes after the game ends).

Pay your fare.

An ORCA card is the easiest way to pay. Plus, you can use it to transfer from the train to a bus or Link once you’re in downtown Seattle.

ORCA cards are available from any ticket vending machine at the Sounder stations.

You can also buy a Day Pass from the ticket machine at the station, or download the Transit Go Ticket app and pay with your phone. (Pro tip – you can also buy your Seattle Monorail ticket with the app.) Station agents are at the platform to help.

Check our Sounder fares page for the ticket price from your station and to learn about reduced fare opportunities. And remember, youth age 18 and under ride free!

Hop on board and enjoy the ride!
