When you hop aboard new 1 line service between Angle Lake and Federal Way, slated to open in 2026, you’ll be traversing an engineering marvel — Sound Transit’s longest-spanning bridge to date. It will be 28 feet tall and 1,100 long, consisting of two 300-foot-long spans and a 500-foot-long span between. In total, it will stretch more than three football fields in length. Hello, Snohomish County! 👋 The Link 1 Line extension is set to welcome passengers aboard on Friday, Aug. 30! This highly anticipated 8.5-mile extension will add four new stations north of the current 1 Line endpoint at Northgate: Shoreline South/148th, Shoreline North/185th, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood City Center. reel icon With all of the environmentally friendly elements of the #2Line, it seems only fitting that the new transit service will open during #EarthMonth. Some of the features at the new Eastside light rail base include: 💧 Water-efficient fixtures 🌞 Energy-efficient mechanical systems and solar panels 🌎 Healthy indoor materials 🚲 Bike facilities 🚧 High levels of construction waste diversion Operational water use can add up pretty quick, especially washing the light rail vehicles frequently. At this base, there's a water capture system in place to filter and reuse the water over and over. Facilities like this are absolutely critical in supporting regional transit expansion and keeping the system safe and clean. Plus, the building is super cool (and LEED Gold certified!).
