East Link live-wire testing

Light rail vehicle testing on East Link

Starting Nov. 1, 2022, live-wire light rail vehicle testing will be rolling out on the East Link light rail tracks. Crews will be conducting this test overnight, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., starting Tuesday, Nov. 1 and ending Thursday, Nov. 3.

Trains will be moving at typical speeds (20-30 mph) on the tracks between the 120th/ Spring District and Redmond Technology stations. Neighbors may hear a low hum from the train as it passes. Uniformed police officers will be available to guide motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists during work.

With these activities moving us toward the opening of the 2 Line, Sound Transit reminds you to pay attention to safety. The trains will be moving fast and can appear quickly. It is important to stay off the tracks at all times and only cross at designated crossings.

Safety Reminders

  • Only cross at designated crosswalks and signalized intersections. Obey all traffic signs and signals. Link trains are electric and very quiet. Whenever you are around trains or tracks, remember to watch for trains.
  • Always look both ways before crossing the tracks. Trains can travel in any direction, on any track, at any time. Even after a train passes, another train may be coming from the opposite direction.
  • Do not walk, stand or park a vehicle on the tracks. Trains can arrive at any time.
  • Stay away from the track switches that are used to change train directions. These switches are very powerful and can move at any time without warning.
  • When crossing the tracks on a bicycle, always cross the tracks at a 90-degree angle to prevent your bicycle tires from getting stuck in the tracks.
