Preferred alternative identified for the OMF South project: South 336th Street site

On Dec. 16, the Sound Transit Board identified the South 336th Street site as the preferred alternative for the location of the OMF South.

The Board’s identification of a preferred alternative is not a final decision. This action indicates where the Board is leaning in their decision-making, based off the findings in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and comments submitted by tribes, agencies and the public during the Draft EIS public comment period.

We are in the middle of an environmental review process, and we’ll continue to study the South 336th Street preferred alternative, along with the two other alternative sites (Midway Landfill and South 344th Street), in the Final EIS. The Board will be asked to make a final decision to select the project to build after the Final EIS is issued in late 2022.

To learn more about the Board’s preferred alternative identification, you can view the meeting recording (available 24-48 hours after the meeting concludes).

What’s next for OMF South?

We’ll issue the Final EIS to the public in 2022, indicating the South 336th Street site as the preferred alternative. In the Final EIS, Sound Transit will respond to substantive comments provided by you, tribes, agencies and cities received during the Draft EIS comment period.
In late 2022, the Sound Transit Board will make a final decision, selecting the site and the project to be built.

We’ll keep you updated as the schedule evolves!

For property owners

After we publish the Final EIS in late 2022, the Sound Transit Board will select the project to be built. Sound Transit will not make final decisions on affected properties and acquisitions until after the Final EIS publication and Board action. We’ll perform further studies to determine if we’d need to purchase some or all of property parcel to build the project.

These decisions will happen no earlier than late 2022. If we determine that your property is needed for the OMF South, Sound Transit will initiate official conversations around acquisition and relocation at that time.

Our project outreach team is available to help with questions every step of the way. To set up a meeting or learn more about how you can engage with Sound Transit:
