Sound Transit approved lower Sounder fares for ORCA LIFT (low-income adult) passengers, youth (ages 6-18) and Regional Reduced Fare Permit holders (seniors age 65+ and riders with disabilities). These changes will be implemented on March 1st, 2021.
This reduction makes Sounder more accessible for these groups, and it simplifies Sound Transit's systemwide fare structure by bringing Sounder fares in line with Link light rail and ST Express bus fares for these passenger groups. The table below outlines the existing Sounder fares, which are based on distance traveled, and the new, flat fares.
Existing and new Sounder fares
|Current fares*||New fares on March 1|
|Low-income adult** (ORCA LIFT)||$2.50-$4.25||$1.50|
|Youth (age 6-18)||$2.50-$4.25||$1.50|
|Senior/Disabled*** (age 65+ or qualifying disability)||$1.50-$2.75||$1.00|
*depending on distance traveled
