Sound Transit is considering reducing Sounder fares for our ORCA LIFT (low-income adult) passengers, youth (ages 6-18) and Regional Reduced Fare Permit holders (seniors age 65+ and riders with disabilities).
This reduction would make Sounder more accessible for these groups, and it would simplify Sound Transit's systemwide fare structure by bringing Sounder fares in line with Link light rail and ST Express bus fares for these passenger groups. The table below outlines our existing Sounder fares, which are based on distance traveled, and our proposed flat fares for these passengers. (We are not considering changes to regular adult fares.) If approved, changes would go into effect March 1, 2021.
Existing and proposed Sounder fares
|Current fares*||Proposed fare|
|Senior & disabled||$1.50-$2.75||$1.00|
*depending on distance traveled
