In June 2022, Sound Transit closed the fifth and sixth floors of the Auburn garage because inspections showed the upper floor needed concrete deck repairs. Currently, we are designing repairs and expect to open the fifth floor by early next year.
In the meantime, other options for getting to a Sounder Station include:

Park at Kent Station: There are 996 parking spaces at Kent Station (301 Railroad Ave N). In recent weeks, only about half are typically in use.
- Take transit to Auburn Station:
- Bike to the station: 8 BikeLink lockers are available at Auburn Station, for $0.05 per hour.
- Travel on Mondays or Fridays: Demand for parking spaces is typically highest mid-week. Consider switching your travel days to Mondays or Fridays when parking is typically available.
We also hope to reinstitute carpool parking permits at Auburn Station in the near future – sign up here to be notified about permits here (scroll down to “permit parking”). Also, we are still planning for the new Auburn garage, which we expect to start construction on next year.
Sounder runs special service on select for select sporting events, conventions and celebrations. Upcoming game trains include:
- Aug 13: Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles
- Aug 27: Mariners vs. Kansas City Royals
- Sep 10: Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams
- Sep 24: Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers
And remember, you don’t have to go to the game to use a special event train. Take advantage of these special Sounder trips to explore Seattle or other communities on the S Line. Read more in our blog post.
With changes in travel patterns, we could reimagine Sounder South: Should we pivot from a service that primarily serves peak commuter travel (north to Seattle weekday mornings and south weekday afternoons) to one serving more travel needs and types of trips?
Sound Transit will update the Sounder South Strategic Plan this year, focusing on whether potential additional trips should be prioritized over longer trains. Longer trains would help us carry more people during the busiest times, while more trips could help us provide service during different times of day or week.
Any new trips require approval and negotiation with BNSF Railway, which owns most of the tracks Sounder runs on.
