Project update

On March 23, the Sound Transit Board identified new route alternatives and station options for the Tacoma Dome Link Extension. These included additional route alternatives with associated stations in South Federal Way and station options in Fife for study in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. To bring these additions up to the same level of evaluation as our existing alternatives, we plan to publish the Draft EIS in mid-2024. These updates will affect the start of service for the Tacoma Dome Link, which we now anticipate opening in 2035. Check out our online open house to view full project details and view updated maps.

More fieldwork underway

You may start to see crews conducting various types of land and water surveys along the project corridor. This work is part of the environmental process to fully understand the existing conditions of the TDLE alternatives and the nearby environments in the Draft EIS. Depending on the type of work being done, you may see us dropping off a flyer or maybe run into crews with safety vests directing you to sources for more information.

What comes next?

The Draft EIS will include more detailed information about all routes and stations and their potential effects on the nearby natural and built environments. We’ll seek comments from the public, Tribal Nations, local cities, and agencies during a formal public comment period when the Draft EIS is published, which is now expected in mid-2024.

Properties potentially affected by the additional alternatives will be identified in the Draft EIS, but we will notify potentially affected property owners before it’s published.

Before then, contact us to request a briefing on the project or to learn more about Sound Transit’s property acquisition and relocation process. You can check out the TDLE project website for more background on the project.

Keep your eye out for future project updates and encourage your friends, family and fellow community members to subscribe.
