Parking reductions coming – know your options
Construction of the new garage at Sumner Station is expected to start later this year, which will significantly reduce parking for transit riders for about two years.
Passengers have several options to access Sounder service:
- Drive to Puyallup Station (3 miles from Sumner Station with over 1,000 stalls).
- Drive to Bonney Lake Park-and-Ride (5 miles from Sumner Station with 356 stalls) and take the 596 Bus to Sumner Station.
- Walk, bike, get dropped off, or carpool to Sumner Station.
Approved carpools will get access to a reserved area in the parking lot north of Maple Street starting Nov. 1. Carpool parking permits are available free of charge to groups of two or more transit riders who regularly drive together to catch the train. The permit gives you access to the reserved area on days you arrive with two or more transit riders in the vehicle.
Applying for a permit is easy — go to the online parking permit portal and provide your contact information and ORCA card numbers for each carpool member. (UPASS and Reduced Regional Fare Permit card numbers are also accepted.) Applications are generally approved within about one business day.
For general information about garage construction, visit our online open house through Dec. 20, Or visit our table at the Sumner Street of Treats: Tuesday, Oct. 31, 5 – 7 p.m., Main Street at Kincaid Avenue.
