Planning King Street Station pedestrian connections for Sounder passengers
Hello from the King Street Station Platform Area Improvements team! Last year, we shared the initial concepts for improving access to the Sounder platform, including new stairs and elevators, a new street-level concourse, and a longer platform to the south with a new entrance/exit.
In 2023, we researched potential pedestrian connections from the Sounder platform to the surrounding streets to make it easier to enter and exit the station. Also, we’re refining the potential improvements we shared last year, through the lens of architectural, engineering, design, and environmental work.
Read the full update to learn what we’re studying and what to expect in 2024.
As a reminder, the King Street Station Platform Area Improvements project is part of the Sounder South Capacity Expansion program, approved by voters in 2016 to improve the passenger experience on Sounder and serve more riders. We conducted outreach this fall about updating the Sounder South Strategic Plan to consider prioritizing new trips. We’ll share an engagement summary in January and expect the Sound Transit Board to act in the spring of 2024.
