Reminder: parking closure starts Feb. 17
On Saturday, Feb. 17, Sound Transit's contractor will close approximately 190 parking stalls at Sumner Station to make room for garage construction. We expect the closure to last about two years. At least 110 stalls will always be available, including the 68 stalls in the lot north of Maple Street.
The work will be done in phases. During Phase 1, which may last several months, approximately 40 stalls will remain open in the station’s southwest triangle lot. This includes ADA stalls, motorcycle stalls and pick-up and drop-off stalls. There are also pick-up and drop-off spaces on Traffic Avenue (see map).
Narrow Street will be closed to through traffic at Maple Avenue, and Academy Street will be closed to through traffic at Cherry Street.
We recommend passengers make alternate plans for getting to a Sounder station:
-
Sign up for the new City of Sumner Commuter Connector residential loop shuttle that travels between East Sumner and the station. There is dedicated parking at the Bill Heath Sports Complex.
-
Drive to Puyallup Station, which is 3 miles from Sumner Station and has 1,000 stalls. Typically about 40% of the stalls are available.
-
Use the Bonney Lake Park-and-Ride (5 miles from Sumner Station with 356 stalls) and take the ST Express 596 to Sumner. We know that the 596 bus does not currently serve the 7:38 a.m. or 10:38 a.m. Sounder trains. This change is due to the national shortage of bus drivers, but we hope to restore these trips when we can.
-
Sign up for a carpool permit. Go to the online parking permit portal and give each carpool member‘s contact information and ORCA card numbers.
-
Bike to the station and use either the new BikeLink lockers ($0.05/hour) or take your bike on board.
-
Walk to the station.
