Sounder trains will serve fairgoers from Everett to Puyallup two Saturdays this year with free Pierce Transit shuttle service between Puyallup Station and the fairgrounds

Sound Transit will operate special Sounder service to the Washington State Fair on Sept. 16 and 23, making it extra easy for Puget Sound residents to avoid weekend gridlock. Special Sounder trains will serve nine stations between Everett and Puyallup. Passengers can get off at Puyallup Station and hop a free Pierce Transit shuttle to the Fair's Red Gate.

Train schedule

Two trains will take passengers between the Snohomish County stations of Everett, Mukilteo and Edmonds and Seattle's King Street Station. Snohomish County riders will not need to change trains to continue south. Three trains will run between King Street Station, Tukwila, Kent, Auburn and Sumner before reaching Puyallup.

Trains leave Everett Station at 8:40 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. Trains from King Street Station to Puyallup leave at 9:50 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 11:50 a.m.

South line trains will stop in Tukwila, Kent, Auburn and Sumner before reaching Puyallup Station.

Two return trains from the Fair will leave Puyallup at 5:50 p.m., 6:50 p.m. Passengers should allow enough time to ride the shuttle from the Fair's Red Gate to the Sounder station to catch the train.

How to purchase your Sounder event train ticket

Riders can skip lines and save up to 20 percent on train and fair tickets by buying a Sounder Train Express Pack in advance at thefair.com/sounder. Express Packs include a round-trip train fare and State Fair admission, and are only sold online. Price is based on boarding location.

To purchase Express Packet tickets, riders can go to thefair.com/sounder, select "Buy tickets," scroll down to select "Sounder Train Express Pack - North" or "Sounder Train Express Pack – South," and follow the screen prompts. Tickets purchased online can be printed at home.

Riders also have the option of using their ORCA cards or buying train tickets at the stations. Regular fares apply. Riders will need to tap off at Puyallup to avoid additional fare charges.

As with all Sound Transit services, fares are discounted for children, seniors and people with disabilities.
