Sound Transit seeking members for committee promoting mobility and transit accessibility for the disabled and elderly

Sound Transit is looking for volunteers for a committee that is helping the agency maximize accessibility, mobility, and safety for disabled and elderly people who use Sounder commuter rail and Regional Express bus services and facilities, and people who will use Link light rail.

The Citizens' Accessibility Advisory Committee (CAAC), which meets monthly, is comprised of citizens within the Sound Transit district who are interested in working to promote access to transit services. People interested in joining should contact Scott Daniels at (206) 398-5401 or get application information online at www.soundtransit.org/stbusiness/facts/staccess/CAAC/staccessCAAC.htm. The deadline for applications is Aug. 15.

The CAAC has helped Sound Transit respond to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); advised regarding design issues pertaining to vehicles, fare vending, and facilities; and has made recommendations for effective signage, color schemes, wayfinding materials and other features to promote mobility and transit accessibility.
