It's a homerun for Sound Transit's Sounder train: special Sunday trip to Mariners game a virtual sell-out - limited number of tickets available on game day
In less than three days Sound Transit's special Sounder "homerun" train to Sunday's Seattle Mariners game is a virtual sell-out, with about 700 tickets sold -- nearly double the 400 riders of the first Sounder train on April 23. However, fans will still have an opportunity to ride the train on game day when 200 tickets will be available for sale on a first-come, first-served basis at 9 a.m. this Sunday at the Tacoma Dome Station. The 200 tickets were set aside to be sold on game day to accommodate riders who are unable to purchase tickets during the week. Sound Transit's comfortable air-conditioned ST Express buses will be standing by with non-stop service to Safeco Field for those riders who aren't able to purchase Sounder tickets.
The Sounder homerun train will depart from Tacoma's Amtrak station at 11:30 a.m. and arrive about 50 minutes later at Seattle's King Street Station, just a short walk from Safeco Field. The Mariner Moose is scheduled to greet fans as they arrive at King Street Station.
This Sunday the Mariners play the Anaheim Angels and on May 21 the M's face off against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Both games begin at 1:35 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m fans can catch the Sounder train back to Tacoma. Should the game go into extra innings, Sounder tickets are good for a free ride back to Tacoma on Sound Transit's ST Express buses. Free parking in Tacoma is available at the Tacoma Dome Station.
Round trip tickets are $5 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and persons with disabilities. Kids aged 12 and under ride free. For the May 21 Seattle Marniers game, tickets for the Sounder trip can be purchased the week prior to the game at Pierce Transit's Bus Shop locations. Ticket quantities are limited and some tickets will held for sale on game day at the Tacoma Dome station starting at 9 a.m. Hours for ticket sales are as follows: Tacoma Dome Station: Monday to Friday, 5 a.m. - 1 p.m.; Downtown Bus Shop: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Lakewood Bus Shop: Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Sounder trains will begin providing regular rush hour commuter service between Tacoma and Seattle this fall. The two-level passenger cars feature comfortable seats, restrooms, cupholders, water fountains, work tables, protected outlets for laptop computers and storage areas for bicycles, wheelchairs and strollers. Construction has already begun on some of the commuter rail stations, which will be located in Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent, and Tukwila. The service is planned to expand in 2001/2002 south to Lakewood and north to Everett.
Sounder commuter rail is one part of Sound Move, the voter-approved plan to bring Link light rail and ST Express bus service to King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.
