Last September, Sound Transit inaugurated nine ST Express bus routes ahead of schedule, and this fall history will repeat itself as Sound Transit launches four new regional and inter-county ST Express bus routes.

This September, new ST Express bus routes will begin service from Redmond to the University District (Route 540), Redmond to downtown Seattle (Routes 545 and 546) and Bellevue to SeaTac (Route 560). Also, new midday service during the week will begin for West Seattle (Route 570).

Other ST Express service that was also scheduled for September actually started last month; two new peak-hour routes between Everett and Northgate (Route 505 and 506) and new weekend and evening service connecting Lakewood, Tacoma, Federal Way and SeaTac (Route 574). Also last month, new Sunday service between Everett and Seattle (Route 512) got underway, which was originally planned for February 2002.

Voter-approved in 1996, Sound Transit is on track to implement a three-county regional transit system plan known as Sound Move. Sound Move is a seamless blend of three transportation systems: Regional Express, featuring 18 new ST Express limited stop, long-haul bus routes and 45 capital projects including new transit centers, park-and-ride lots and HOV lane access projects; Sounder commuter rail, running 82 miles from Everett to Tacoma/Lakewood; and Link light rail, a 21-mile system connecting the cities of Seattle, Tukwila and SeaTac and a 1.6 mile system in Tacoma.
