Pinehurst Station will open on September 30

Sound Transit announced today that Pinehurst Station will open for service on Wednesday, September 30. The newest Seattle station will connect communities near NE 130th Street to high-capacity rail rapid transit service, with 1 and 2 Line trains arriving every 4-5 minutes. Over time, the station is expected to serve around 3,400 riders with connections to community resources, local residents, and King County Metro bus service. 

 

Pinehurst Station was approved in the 2016 ST3 ballot measure and is the first infill station in agency history. Originally projected to open in 2031, the Sound Transit Board advanced this station into final design in February 2020 and approved additional budget and contract changes for the accelerated delivery in 2022. These decisions ultimately resulted in early construction beginning before the opening of Lynnwood Link, allowing for a faster and less disruptive construction process, and for the station to open five years before originally planned.  

 

“Today is a great day for the Pinehurst community and for everyone who has worked for years to make this station a reality. The Pinehurst Station is more than a new stop on the map. It fills a critical gap in our light rail network and gives more people a fast, reliable connection to jobs, education, neighborhoods and destinations across the region,” said Snohomish County Executive and Sound Transit Board Chair Dave Somers. “People have been asking for a station here for a long time, and now they can finally access their neighborhood Link station and head anywhere from Seattle to Snohomish County and beyond. That’s what good public investment is all about, making it easier for people to get where they need to go and giving communities more choices. I’m really proud to see Pinehurst Station open its doors.”

 

“The opening of Pinehurst Station is a significant milestone as the first infill station added to an existing light rail line. It’s another step forward in delivering the light rail investments communities across King County have been counting on,” said King County Executive and Sound Transit Board member Girmay Zahilay. I look forward to continued progress on the remaining infill stations, including Graham Street Station and Boeing Access Road Station.”

“Opening the agency’s first infill station on an operating line is an impressive feat, and one that comes on the heels of opening the first light rail extension across a floating bridge,” said Redmond Mayor and Sound Transit Board System Expansion Committee Chair Angela Birney. “Our region’s innovative spirit was on full display in completing this station, and will continue to guide us as we build out the rest of the system”.
