U.S. Senator Patty Murray will join Sound Transit and local officials on Friday September 26 to "roll out the red carpet" and officially dedicate the new Tacoma Dome Sounder Station alongside Freighthouse Square. The dedication of the commuter rail station celebrates the opening of the final piece at the most complete multi-modal transit facility in the region.

On September 15, after three years of using a temporary platform at the nearby Amtrak station to the east, commuters have been able to park their cars in the Tacoma Dome garage and merely walk across the street to the new permanent Sounder station alongside Freighthouse Square.

Joining Senator Murray for the dedication will be Sound Transit Board Chair/King County Executive Ron Sims, Sound Transit Vice Chair/Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg and Boardmember/Tacoma City Councilman Kevin Phelps. Also scheduled to speak are Don Monroe, Chief Executive Officer of Pierce Transit and Dome District Manager Julie Anderson.

The completion of the Sounder station makes Tacoma Dome Station the most complete multi-modal facility in the Sound Transit system. Now commuters can leave their cars and catch Sounder commuter rail, Tacoma Link light rail, ST Express regional buses, Pierce Transit buses and Greyhound buses at one location. With the Amtrak station just a short walk to the east people can virtually go anywhere in the world without using their cars.
