Public invited to provide feedback on 90 percent designs for replacing aging railroad trestle

Sound Transit will conduct an open house today from 4-6 p.m. at Tacoma Dome Station Plaza, 505 E. 25th St. to seek public feedback on 90 percent designs for replacing the aging Tacoma Trestle.

For those unable to attend the open house, the online open house provides the same information and opportunity to comment at http://tacomatrestle.publicmeeting.info.

The open house will feature renderings of the trestle at a 90 percent level of design, details on how the project will be built, and the project timeline. Staff will also be available to answer questions about the new trestle, including next steps for the project.

Sound Transit is replacing the wooden, single-track railroad trestle with a concrete double-track structure to accommodate additional Sounder trips that were approved by voters in the Sound Transit 2 ballot measure. Other improvements include upgrading railroad signals, replacing retaining walls along the bridge, making minor street repairs and relocating some utilities. Construction on the new trestle is scheduled to begin in 2016 and be complete by 2018.

The new structure will also accommodate additional Amtrak service when those passenger trains are routed inland.
