Public invited to review, comment on station locations, pre-60 percent design plans for 2.4-mile expansion to Stadium District, Hilltop

Sound Transit will hold an open house on updated design plans for the Tacoma Link Extension on Thursday, Dec. 15, from 5 – 7 p.m. at The Evergreen State College – Tacoma campus, 1210 6th Ave.

An online open house at tacomalink.org will be available Dec.18 – Jan. 8 for people who cannot attend the meeting.

Members of the public are invited to review and comment on station design and traction power substation screening proposals, suggest station names, and learn about the art process associated with the 2.4-mile expansion. The project includes one relocated and six new stations that will extend from the Theater District through the Stadium Way and Hilltop neighborhoods, and expansion of the existing operations and maintenance facility (OMF).

The Sound Transit Board of Directors selected the route, stations and OMF expansion for the Tacoma Link Extension in November last year. The expanded system will run primarily in-street along Stadium Way, North 1st Street, Division Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr., Way. Staff will spend the next two years advancing engineering work on the project and refining cost estimates. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2018.

The existing 1.6-mile light rail line serves six stations between the Theater District and the Tacoma Dome. Trains run every 12 minutes and provide nearly a million rides per year.
