An album journey: Seattle waterfront via Westlake Station and ‘Carnavas’

Publish Date

Looking for a fresh way to explore downtown Seattle this summer? Try pairing a transit adventure with an album that sets the perfect tone.

“Carnavas,” the debut from Silversun Pickups, is moody, melodic, and made for wandering.

Hop off the 1 Line at Westlake Station, press play, and follow this self-guided music tour through Pike Place Market, the waterfront, and beyond.

“Melatonin” — Westlake Station

As “Melatonin” eases in, exit Westlake Station and follow Pine Street toward the market. The sleepy intro matches the slow reveal of the city coming to life. Grab an espresso or snack to set the tone for the rest of your journey.

“Well Thought Out Twinkles” — Pike Place Market

The market is bustling, and this track is pure motion. Dodge tourists, admire the flowers, and watch fish fly. Check out Golden Age Collectibles for comic book nostalgia or stop by Left Bank Books for something offbeat and independent — just like the tunes you’re listening to.

“Checkered Floor” — Overlook Walk

Located where the Viaduct once stood, Overlook Walk creates a key pedestrian connection between the city’s downtown core and its waterfront, connecting 100 feet of vertical elevation change in a short distance. People can walk, use strollers, or use wheelchairs on the elevated pathway from the market to the waterfront without ever crossing the new Alaskan Way. This slower, more introspective song is perfect for a breather as ferries and water taxis glide across the Puget Sound.

“Lazy Eye” — Waterfront

As this classic track builds, head down to the waterfront. The tempo hits just as you hit the open air. Check out the Seattle Great Wheel at Pier 57 and swing by Miner’s Landing for a snack; or pop into Ye Olde Curiosity Shop at Pier 54 for oddball treasures.

“Little Lover’s So Polite” — Pier 62

This minimalist track matches the sleek, open vibe of Pier 62. Band fans already know that the Silversun Pickups are playing here on July 13 as part of the Odalalee concert series. Brought to you by The Crocodile in partnership with Friends of Waterfront Park, this brand-new summer series transforms the recently renovated Pier 62 into a beautiful open-air concert venue, right on the edge of Elliott Bay.

“Three Seed” — Waterfront Park

End your journey with a reflective moment at Waterfront Park, near the Seattle Aquarium. The layered sound of “Three Seed” sets the mood for watching the tide roll in.
