Enjoy arts on the Island, no parking required
Mercer Island is hosting a full weekend of art and culture this August, and Link light rail makes it easy to catch all three days.
Arts on the Island runs Friday, Aug. 28, through Sunday, Aug. 30, spreading music, local art, wine, and community across Town Center.
Here is what's happening, and how to get there:
The weekend lineup
Friday, Aug. 28: Arts Around the Island
5 to 7 p.m., various Town Center locations
An evening of art, music, and interactive experiences spread across Town Center.
Saturday, Aug. 29: Art Uncorked
3 to 7 p.m., Greta Hackett Sculpture Park
An elevated evening of art, wine, food, and music at the Greta Hackett Sculpture Park. The name points to wine, and there is plenty of it, but art is just as central to the evening, with work from the Mercer Island Visual Arts League throughout the park. Non-alcoholic drink options are included with entry as well.
Sunday, August 30:
10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Farmers Market, Mercer Island Town Center
Arts at the Market Local art and live music woven into the regular Mercer Island Farmers Market.
Getting there by transit
Mercer Island Station opened on the 2 Line earlier this year, putting all three events within easy walking distance of the platform.
- Ride the 2 Line to Mercer Island Station.
- Exit toward 77th Avenue SE or 80th Avenue SE, whichever is closer to your platform.
- Walk a few short blocks into Town Center, where each event takes place.
From Bellevue, the ride to Mercer Island takes about 10 minutes. From Seattle's International District/Chinatown Station, it is a quick trip across Lake Washington on the same line.
Good to know
With events running Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, parking in Town Center gets tight, especially during Saturday's Art Uncorked.
Arriving by transit means one less thing to plan around, and it means anyone enjoying a glass of wine on Saturday does not have to think about the drive home. Tickets for Art Uncorked are required and available in advance through the event website. Friday and Sunday are open to the public with no ticket needed.
Whether you are in it for one evening or the whole weekend, the 2 Line makes Mercer Island an easy trip.
