Seattle Independent Bookstore Day: Tap and ride the wave

Saturday was Independent Bookstore Day and if you are feeling sad you missed it — don’t be! 

The Seattle Independent Bookstore Day Passport Challenge runs through May 4. Even better, quite a few participating shops are accessible by Sound Transit services.

And you’re in luck! We mapped them all out for you. Make it an all-day adventure or hit a few stops at a time throughout the week. Visit just five or more stores by Monday, May 4 and you could score a one time 25% discount at any participating shop.

U District Station

Nook & Cranny Books
  • Distance: ~0.8 mi  

A discovery-driven shop focused on translated and global literature. Great for finding something unexpected right away.  

Capitol Hill Station

Ada's Technical Books & Café
  • Distance: ~0.6 mi  

Coffee, science, tech, and curiosity-driven books. A calm, thoughtful place to start the day.

A longtime favorite with deep shelves, cozy corners, and easy browsing that turns into lingering.

A quiet, poetry-focused bookstore built for slowing down.

A long-running neighborhood bookstore with a loyal local following and strong kids section.

  • Walk time: ~6 minutes from the Bremerton ferry terminal 

A quirky, personality-filled bookstore featuring indie fiction, horror, sci-fi, and a strong focus on staff picks and local creators. It is small, bold, and very browseable.

Eagle Harbor Book Co.
  • Distance: ~0.2 mi  
  • Walk time: ~5 minutes from the Bainbridge ferry terminal 

A classic island bookstore that pairs perfectly with a ferry ride and slower pace.
