Ah, the freedom of riding on two wheels. There's nothing quite like it. So, if the open is calling you, here's how you can answer back: there are some truly awesome biking routes conveniently located from our new Downtown Redmond and Marymoor Village stations, opening May 10!
Redmond is home to one of the few velodromes on the West Coast, and its annual summer celebration, Derby Days, celebrates the oldest running bike race!
Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just in the mood for a leisurely spin, take the opportunity to explore some excellent routes in the bicycle capital of the Northwest. There really is no better time, because May is also Bike Everywhere Month.
From scenic pathways lined with local charm to hidden urban gems waiting to be discovered, let's pedal our way from the stations to uncover some of the best two-wheeled treasures in town.
The Marymoor Connector
Let's kick things off with the Marymoor Connector, a local favorite. It starts downtown and takes you straight to Marymoor Park.
Peddling alongside the Sammamish River, you'll find well-kept bike lanes, clearly marked intersections, and a family-friendly route.
The Downtown Park Tour Loop
Just under three miles, this loop takes you through five of Redmond's beautiful parks. Along the way, you'll encounter a variety of public art.
Sammamish River Trail
Families who love biking will find plenty to enjoy in Redmond. The Sammamish River Trail is a favorite, offering 10 miles of paved, scenic path along the river — ideal for riders of all ages and skill levels. It's a smooth, safe ride the whole family can enjoy.
Redmond Central Connector
This multi-use trail weaves through parks and neighborhoods, making it easy to explore different parts of the city while pedaling.
The Redmond Central Connector knits together Redmond Town Center, historic Downtown, Grass Lawn neighborhood, and the Willows business district.
Kelsey Creek Trail
Starting near Marymoor, explore nearby sections of quieter neighborhood trails that follow Kelsey Creek. This route offers a blend of paved paths and picturesque side streets for those who enjoy the subtleties of local scenery with fewer crowds.
Tips for your ride
Prep your bike: Give your bike a quick once-over — check those tires and brakes. The last thing you want is a flat derail your ride.
Plan for the weather: Northwest weather – yeah, wait five minutes, and it'll change, right? So, pack layers and a lightweight rain jacket, unless it's like 80 degrees and blue skies. Then you should pack some sunscreen and extra water.
Safety first: Always, always wear a helmet. Also, be aware of your surroundings and other walkers, runners, and cyclists. Remember, it's all fun and games until someone forgets to signal.
Bring navigation tools: Whether you rely on a trusty cycling app or a good old-fashioned map, keep your route in check. The right tool can be a lifesaver (or at least get you home without wandering into a cow pasture).
Hydrate and snack: Keep water and some munchies handy. There's nothing like a well-timed snack that makes you feel like a cycling champion.
Embrace the culture
Cycling in Redmond is not just about cardio — it's a joyful celebration of community, adventure, and the occasional quirky roadside sight. Imagine every pedal stroke as a mini escape from the ordinary, where urban comforts meet the wild wonder of the Pacific Northwest.
Whether rolling solo or joining a local crew, these routes promise a blend of fun, fitness, and a pinch of whimsy.
