reel icon What is this thing? 👀   This is an automatic pedestrian gate! Many people are familiar with its predecessor—the automatic quad gate which is a traffic control device used to warn people in vehicles that a train is approaching and prevent them from entering a train’s right of way.     When a train approaches, lights begin to flash, bells ring, and the automatic pedestrian gate arm descends across sidewalks or crosswalks where people walk, bike, or roll to warn people of an oncoming train.     These automatic pedestrian gates are near BelRed Station, which opened in 2024. Sound Transit will install automatic pedestrian gates at Royal Brougham with construction starting as soon as late 2027.     #BehindYourRide
