Boeing Access Road project updates

Like many agencies nationwide that are balancing transit operations and mega-project capital expansions, Sound Transit faces rapidly escalating costs in nearly every area of its work.

To proactively address these challenges, Sound Transit launched the Enterprise Initiative: a comprehensive effort to manage rapidly rising capital and operating costs while affordably delivering the ST3 program’s goals. As a key first step, the Sound Transit Board adopted an updated ST3 System Plan on May 28, 2026.

Under the updated ST3 System Plan, the Boeing Access Road Station Project is funded through the Final Design phase.

While the construction of the Boeing Access Road Station is not currently affordable, Sound Transit will develop a plan to identify cost savings and alternative financing and delivery options for the Boeing Access Road Station in collaboration with the City of Tukwila and King County. This plan is expected to be submitted to the Board by February 2027.

The Board remains committed to completing environmental review and design for the entire project. Continuing this work creates multiple ways to close the current funding gap. It enables the agency to refine the project, reduce costs, and pursue new financing options. This progress maintains our momentum, ensuring we can deliver light rail to Boeing Access Road.
