Link light rail to single track between University of Washington and Roosevelt Stations late night from Feb. 27 to March 3

Work marks start of one month of late-night maintenance activity that will impact other stations

Publish Date

Beginning tonight, Feb. 27 through March 3, Link light rail will single track between University of Washington and Northgate stations from 11 p.m. to end of revenue service to allow for rail grinding maintenance. The work will mark the start of a month-long program of rail grinding activity.

As part of the maintenance work, single tracking is also currently scheduled from 11 p.m. to end of revenue service at the following stations. Sound Transit will alert riders if dates change due to work progress:

  • SODO station from March 5 to March 8
  • Mt. Baker station from March 9 to March 12

Signage at the stations will alert passengers as to which platform is affected. Passengers should be aware of the direction of the trains arriving at the stations, as that will be the direction in which the trains will continue.

While work will be underway at late night through March 24, other stations are not expected to be affected by the maintenance work.

During this time, passengers, businesses, and residents may experience noisy conditions. Observers should expect to see localized sparks near the rail-grinding equipment. This is a normal part of the rail-grinding process, which is necessary to maintain rails in a safe state free of defects and degradation.
