Link light rail will be suspended between Mount Baker and SODO on Oct. 26

Buses will replace trains between Mount Baker, Beacon Hill, and SODO to accommodate essential system maintenance

Publish Date
Sound Transit will suspend 1 Line service on Sunday, Oct. 26 between Mount Baker and SODO stations. This closure is necessary to accommodate essential system maintenance at Beacon Hill Station.

During the disruption, crews will replace switches that support the Emergency Fan/Life Network (EFN) and Emergency Ventilation System (EVS). These switches are being replaced across the system as they reach the end of their useful life, with 12 of 15 stations already upgraded. The next scheduled switch replacement will be Nov. 8 at Capitol Hill and University of Washington stations.

During the disruption, trains will operate every 10 minutes between Lynnwood City Center and SODO, and between Angle Lake and Mount Baker stations.

1 Line shuttle buses will operate between Mount Baker, Beacon Hill, and SODO every 10-15 minutes.

Due to the nature of the work, trains will continue to operate through the Beacon Hill Tunnel but will not carry passengers. Passengers traveling southbound past SODO will need to exit trains at SODO Station and board shuttle buses for service to Beacon Hill and Mount Baker stations. Southbound passengers can then re-board Link at Mount Baker Station to continue south.

Northbound passengers will likewise board shuttle buses at Mount Baker Station and can reconnect to Link at SODO for the remainder of their journey.

Airport bound passengers should plan for up to 30 additional minutes of travel time and may wish to consider other options for connecting to Mount Baker Station, including King County Metro Routes 8 or 48 or rideshare, for connections south.

Staff ambassadors will be available to assist passengers at some stations.

A language line is available to provide translation assistance for passengers with limited proficiency in English at 800-823-9230.

Sound Transit remains committed to working closely with its partners to continue serving the public. Efforts will continue to prioritize serving riders who depend on Sound Transit’s services, including seniors, people with disabilities, Title VI-protected populations (race, color, national origin), passengers with low-incomes, and those with limited proficiency in English.
