SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm and Sound Transit today announced a multi-year partnership encouraging fans to “Ride the Wave” and utilize public transportation to get to Storm home games at Angel of the Winds Arena and Alaska Airlines Arena at the University of Washington.

To celebrate the 2018 WNBA Championship, a one-time Sounder game day train will run to the Storm’s home opener at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Wash. on Saturday, May 25. The train will depart King Street Station at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time and make stops in Edmonds and Mukilteo before arriving at Everett Station one hour before tip-off. The return train will depart Everett Station approximately 45 minutes after the game ends. Angel of the Winds Arena is approximately a half-mile walk from Everett Station and is also accessible from many ST Express, Community Transit and Everett Transit buses.

“Seattle Storm fans will find rooting for their world-championship team gets even sweeter after Sounder allows them to trade congestion hassles and parking costs for scenic views along the shore of Puget Sound,” says Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff. “We’re excited to offer fans who attend the Storm’s opening game in Everett the same easy and affordable travel option that thousands of Mariners, Seahawks and Sounder FC fans depend on.”

Fans who RSVP to the Sounder game day train will be eligible to receive a limited edition Storm-branded ORCA card as well as the Opening Day t-shirt. The first 250 passengers will receive a pre-loaded ORCA card with one round-trip Sounder fare. King Street Station will open at 9:30 a.m. PT on May 25, one hour before departure.  Fans are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy a pep rally, which will include giveaways, music and a photo opportunity with Sound Transit mascot Zap Gridlock.

“During the relocation process, it was a top priority that we make it as easy as possible for our fans to travel to our temporary home arenas,” said Storm CEO and General Manager Alisha Valavanis. “The Sounder game day train is a unique opportunity for Storm supporters to share in the excitement of the season opener without traffic concerns.”

The Storm will also host 12 home games at the University of Washington’s Alaska Airlines Arena, which is served by multiple ST Express buses and King County Metro routes. Additionally, the Link light rail stops at Husky Station every six minutes during peak hours. Link riders can avoid the post-game ticket vending machine lines by purchasing a Day Pass at their originating station. One-way tickets and Day Passes can also be purchased with the Transit GO Ticket App.

Another way to skip lines at ticket vending machines is by getting an ORCA card, which works on trains, buses and ferries throughout the region.  Cards only cost $5 for adults, plus whatever amount a rider chooses to load in the card’s E-purse or the cost of a pass that is good for unlimited transit trips. More information is available at orcacard.com. Throughout the season, the Storm and Sound Transit will offer fans a $2 discount on day-of-game box office tickets to fans that show an ORCA card.
