Sound Transit will open remaining floors in Kent Station Garage

Sound Transit will open the rest of the Kent Station Garage on Monday, March 8. The five-floor structure, located at Kent's Sounder commuter rail station, will now provide 871 parking spaces for commuters traveling to and from Kent on Sounder commuter rail, ST Express regional buses and King County Metro buses.

"We are opening the entire garage in response to our customers' requests," said Sound Transit Chair/Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg. "Now, they will be able to park on the same floor as the pedestrian bridge, providing easier access to the safest crossing of the tracks."

Opening the entire garage - and the recent addition of new parking slots at the Lynnwood Transit Center -- brings the total number of permanent parking spaces Sound Transit has created for commuters throughout King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties to more than 7,000.

The garage is open weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., except holidays. The total cost for design and construction was just over $10 million, which includes $4 million from the City of Kent and $2.1 million from King County Metro. The lower floors of the garage opened in March, 2002.
