Construction alert: Partial street closures and traffic impacts during backfill of U District Station site
What
Closure of Northeast 43rd Street between University Way Northeast and Brooklyn Avenue Northeast while Sound Transit's contractor places additional soil in the U District Station (UDS) south end area. There will be traffic impacts (see map).
When
Street closures: Northeast 43rd Street between University Way Northeast and Brooklyn Avenue Northeast — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, through Friday, Dec. 21. The roadway will reopen on the weekends.
Backfill procedures: Dump trucks will back in off University Way Northeast with the assistance of flaggers and a uniformed police officer, then unload materials. A loader will then start to push materials into the station box.

- No parking signs will be placed along Northeast 43rd Street between University Way Northeast and Brooklyn Avenue Northeast on both sides of the street.
- Sidewalks will remain open with candlesticks and caution tape.
- The pedestrian pathway around the UDS site will be open.
- Uniformed police officers will be present along with flaggers (see map).
- The road will be swept and cleaned at the end of the shift.
- The alleyway between Northeast 42nd and Northeast 43rd street, and University Way Northeast and Brooklyn Avenue Northeast will be closed at Northeast 43rd Street (see map). Local access will be maintained.
- Garbage pick-up and recycle will be maintained.
