Crews install track across I Street on Division Avenue this week

As soon as Wednesday, April 21, crews will advance the track installation on the south side of Division Avenue across I Street. At that time, Division Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic from Martin Luther King Jr. Way to Yakima Avenue, and both J St. and I St. will be closed south of Division Avenue for about a half-block. These traffic conditions will be in place for about three weeks. To complete this work as quickly as possible, the contractor will work on Saturdays on Division Avenue, starting as early as 7 a.m. In addition, crews will pull rail into Division Avenue on Thursday, May 22 at 5 a.m. Please follow the detour on MLK Jr. Way, 6th Avenue and St. Helens and allow a little extra time to reach your destination – thank you. 

Crews continue to install track on Commerce Street from I-705 to S. 7th Street, including curb, gutter, crosswalks and paving. Along Martin Luther King Jr. Way from S. 18th St. to S. 7th St., crews will continue tying-in the Link power poles to the electrical system. The contractor may start installing push-button signals at MLK Jr. Way and S. 18th St. On E. 25th St., the contractor is installing track, curb and gutter near the expanded Operations and Maintenance Facility. 

Looking ahead, the contractor plans to continue the track installation on E. 25th St., closing E. 25th St. in both directions between E. G St. and McKinley Ave. E. as soon as April 26. In early May, the contractor plans to advance the track installation on Commerce St. to S. 9th St. Last week, crews completed the track installation in the Division Ave. and MLK Jr. Way intersection, and opened MLK Jr. Way to two-way traffic.

Commerce Street from I-705 to Theater District Station – street closure. Crews are installing track on Commerce St. from I-705 to the crosswalk north of the Theater District Station. This week, the contractor will install curb, gutter and crosswalks and will pave. Commerce St. is closed in both directions in this area, and S. 7th St. is closed at Commerce St. Access to driveways is maintained. To enter the driveways, please travel north on Commerce St. from S. 9th St. and follow the flagger's directions. The detour route from I-705 is Stadium Way north to Broadway, Tacoma Avenue or St. Helens or take an earlier exit (City Center exit). Please allow extra time to reach your destination – thank you. The contractor plans to open the northbound lane on Commerce St. between 7th St. and I-705 in late April/early May, and then continue installing track on Commerce St. from S. 7th St. to S. 9th St.

Division Avenue from Martin Luther King Jr. Way to Yakima Avenue – eastbound lane closure. Crews are installing track on Division Avenue from MLK Jr. Way across J St. Currently, Division Avenue is closed to eastbound traffic from MLK Jr. Way to I St., and S. J St. is closed south of Division Ave. for about a half-block. Please follow the detour on MLK Jr. Way, 6th Avenue S. Martin Luther King Jr. Way from S. 18th St. to S. 7th St. – traffic restrictions. This week, crews are tying the Link power poles into the electrical system on Martin Luther King Jr. Way between S. 18th St. and S. 7th St. Two-way traffic is maintained on MLK Jr. Way and the side streets. Later this week, the contractor may start installing push button signals at MLK Jr. Way and S. 18th St. Sidewalks or crosswalks may be closed from time to time. Please follow the pedestrian detour – thank you. Later, crews will install signals and foundations for signal poles at the S. 18th St., S. 17th St., S. 15th St. and S. 13th St. intersections.

East 25th Street from McKinley Ave. to E. J St. – eastbound lane closure. Crews are installing track, curb and gutter near the Operations and Maintenance Facility on E. 25th St. As soon as Monday, April 26, the contractor will continue the track installation on E. 25th St. to E. G St. At that time, E. 25th St. will be closed in both directions between E. G St. and McKinley Avenue E. Please follow the detour on Puyallup Avenue.
