Crews building the U District Station are preparing to re-open Northeast 43rd Street between Brooklyn Avenue Northeast and the alley to one-way eastbound traffic by early spring.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, crews will begin road work as early as 7 a.m. This will include removing the temporary asphalt and grading on Northeast 43rd Street at the alley just west of the Ave and work near the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue Northeast and Northeast 43rd Street.

The City of Seattle has approved a temporary noise variance to perform this work. Activities that result in high impact noise (such as jackhammering) will be performed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Other work to be completed prior to re-opening this section of Northeast 43rd Street includes paving, striping, and signage.

What to expect:

  • Noise from breaking apart and removing asphalt, placing metal plates, and running equipment
  • Construction vehicles and equipment parked along Northeast 43rd Street
  • Access impacts along Northeast 43rd Street and at the alley just west of the Ave
