Street closure at Division Ave and North I St during the weekend of March 30-31; multiple traffic impacts along route this week
The Division Avenue and I Street intersection will be completely closed this weekend, March 30 – 31, while crews dig a trench across Division Avenue. This work can occur during day and night-time hours. Commerce Street from 7th Street to the Theater District Station is closed for sewer work. The contractor will continue working in the same areas along the route this week. North 1st Street in between Tacoma Avenue and Yakima Avenue is open to one-way traffic.

Where
North I Street at Division Avenue – street closure. The Division Avenue and I Street intersection will be completely closed this weekend (March 30 and 31), as crews dig a trench and install sewer pipes across Division Avenue to South I Street near Wright Park. The contractor has obtained a noise variance from the City of Tacoma, and can work at night to complete this work during the weekend, if needed. In addition, sewer work will continue on Division Ave between I Street and J Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Division Avenue.
Commerce Street: 7th Street to Theater District Station – street closure. Commerce Street is closed in between 7th Street and the Theater District Station for sewer work. To access I-705, follow the detour from Pacific Avenue to 7th Street to Commerce Street to the 705.
North 1st Street from G Street to Yakima Avenue – northbound lane closure. North 1st Street is open to one-way traffic from Tacoma Avenue to Yakima Avenue. Stadium Thriftway’s driveway on North 1st Street is now open. The northbound lane on North 1st Street is closed between G Street and Yakima Avenue.
South 11th Street east of Martin Luther King Jr. Way – eastbound lane closure. The eastbound traffic lane from Martin Luther King Jr. Way to I Street is temporarily closed. Please follow detours. One-way traffic westbound on 11th Street is maintained. The contractor is installing a sewer line.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way near 3rd Street – lane restriction. The lane near Tacoma General Hospital is closed for underground utility work. Two-way traffic is maintained on MLK Jr Way.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way in between 9th Street and Division – lane restrictions. Crews are creating pole foundations, including doing potholing on the east side of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, starting at 9th Street and going north to Division Avenue. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
South 4th Street – westbound lane closure. Westbound 4th Street in between Broadway and Stadium Way is closed for electrical trench work. Eastbound 4th Street is open.
Stadium Way: southbound lane closure; use detours. Southbound on Stadium Way continues to be closed to traffic from Broadway to South 4th Street Please follow the detours on Street Helens Avenue., Broadway and Tacoma Avenue. One-way traffic going north on Stadium Way is open. The contractor is working on both water and storm drainage systems. Tacoma Public Utilities is connecting customers on North E Street to the new water service.

- Driveway and pedestrian access is maintained, although some sidewalks and crosswalks will be temporarily closed. Pedestrian detours will be in place.
