Week of Jan. 7

Where

North 1st Street between North Tacoma Avenue and G Street – northeast lane closure. North 1st Street in the Stadium District will be open to one lane of traffic during construction. The northeast lane on North 1st Street will be closed in between G Street and North Tacoma Ave. There will be no parking on both sides of North 1st Street. Crews will work on a deep sewer line.

Please follow the detours on St. Helens Avenue, Broadway and Tacoma Avenue. One-way traffic going north on Stadium Way is open. The pedestrian refuge islands on Stadium Way were removed as part of the project and to better shift traffic during construction. For safety, some sidewalks on the east side of Stadium Way may be closed during construction. The contractor is working on both water and storm drainage systems.

Traffic south of South 4th Street on Stadium Way will be detoured onto I-705. To avoid travelling on I-705, please follow the detours on St. Helens Ave., Broadway and Tacoma Avenue.

Potholing on Martin Luther King Jr. Way at intersections from 9th Street to 15th Street

Sound Transit's contractor will start potholing at the intersections on Martin Luther King Jr. Way from 9th Street to 15th Street as early as Jan. 14. Potholing consists of digging small areas in the street to confirm the location of underground utilities. The work at each intersection is anticipated to take one to two days. There will be no parking near the potholing work. Traffic cones and flaggers will direct traffic near the construction areas.

Potholing on East 25th Street starts in early January, followed by underground utility work

The contractor will start potholing on East 25th Street in front of Sound Transit's Operations and Maintenance Facility and the adjacent expansion area on Jan. 7. Potholing in this area is expected to take about one week.

After the potholing is completed, crews will start the underground utility work on East 25th Street. This work involves digging trenches in the street to move existing or provide new water, stormwater and sewer lines. This underground utility work is expected to take about two months. There will be no parking near the potholing and utility work. Traffic cones and flaggers will direct traffic near the construction area as needed.
