Tunneling set to begin at Maple Leaf Portal

Next week, the first of two tunnel boring machines is scheduled to start chewing it’s way south from the Maple Leaf Portal site to the Roosevelt Station construction site. Crews are conducting final tests on the TBM to make sure it’s ready for its approximately six month journey to its first pit stop at the Roosevelt site.

Crews are now assembling the second TBM at the Maple Leaf Portal. The second machine is scheduled to launch in late summer/early fall.

With the start of tunnel excavation comes an uptick in dirt hauling trucks. Drivers along First Avenue NE should use extra caution and watch for trucks and trailers.
