Upcoming utility work at NE 100th Street and First Avenue NE
Starting as early as this Thursday night, September 10, Sound Transit’s contractor will begin work at the intersection of NE 100th Street and First Ave NE.
Crews will install utilities using a trenchless method called “pipe ramming” often used to cross underneath busy roadways in order to reduce impacts. First, crews must excavate a launch pit on the south side of NE 100th Street and First Avenue NE. Next, they will install the pipe beneath the roadway, which will create intermittent noise for several days. Work will occur weekdays and Saturdays. Daytime work hours are from 5 a.m. – 3:30 pm and nighttime work hours from 7:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. This project is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.
Two-way traffic will be maintained on First Ave NE at all times. A uniformed police officer will be stationed at the intersection of NE 100th Street and First Ave NE to assist vehicles around the work area.
What to expect:
- Intermittent noise during pipe ramming and shoring construction.
- Vehicle lane, sidewalk and crosswalk closures.
- Flaggers and police officers will direct vehicles and pedestrians around the work area.
