Utility Location at NE 105th Street

Publish Date
Body

To prepare for the construction of the Northgate Link Extension light rail, Sound Transit will be "potholing" on 1st Ave NE just north of NE 105th Street on Thursday, March 21, 2013.

Potholing is the practice of digging a test hole to expose underground utilities to verify the horizontal and vertical location. A heavy-duty truck-mounted vacuum (a.k.a. vacuum truck) is typically used to excavate the ground until the top of the utility can be seen.

What to expect

  • This work will start at 9 AM, take approximately 2-3 hours and will require a lane closure along northbound 1st Ave NE. Flaggers will control traffic. There may be a 1 to 2 minute delay.
  • Construction signage and flaggers will be used for any lane closures.
  • The vacuum truck makes noise similar to a diesel engine running at high RPMs.
