Last year, we shared a list of some of the movie theaters near light rail stations. With new stations now open and more screens to explore, it’s time for Part 2!
From cozy indie spots to premium IMAX experiences, these theaters are all within a mile of a Sound Transit stop or station. So grab your popcorn, tap your ORCA card, and let transit take you to the movies.
IPIC Redmond
Nearest station: Downtown Redmond Station (2 Line)
Address: 7330 164th Ave NE, Redmond
Luxury meets movie night at IPIC Redmond, where plush recliners, in-seat dining, and craft cocktails make for a premium night out. It’s right next to the newly opened Downtown Redmond Station — part of the 2 Line expansion — so you can ride in style before settling in for the main feature.
How to get there: Exit at Downtown Redmond Station and walk a few minutes to Redmond Town Center. The theater is inside the shopping and dining hub, making it easy to plan a full night out.
SIFF Cinema Downtown
Nearest station: Westlake Station (1 Line)
Address: 2100 4th Ave, Seattle
SIFF Cinema Downtown brings a fresh chapter to the beloved former Cinerama theater. With state-of-the-art projection, immersive sound, and a calendar packed with both blockbusters and indie hits, it’s the perfect stop for a movie night out.
How to get there: Hop off Link at Westlake Station and walk just a few blocks west. You’ll find the theater nestled between Belltown and downtown, surrounded by great spots for dinner and drinks before or after the show.
Varsity Theatre
Nearest station: U District Station (1 Line)
Address: 4329 University Way NE, Seattle A classic since 1940, the Varsity Theatre is a beloved landmark in the University District. Catch first-run features, film-festival favorites, and special screenings in its cozy, old-school setting — the perfect spot for students and movie lovers alike.
How to get there: Exit U District Station and head one block east to “The Ave.” The Varsity’s iconic marquee will be waiting for you just steps away.
Crest Cinema Center
Nearest station: Shoreline South/148th Station (1 Line)
Address: 16505 5th Ave NE, Shoreline
A local favorite since 1949, the Crest Cinema Center is a community gem showing a mix of first-run and arthouse films at budget-friendly prices. Beer, wine, and classic concessions make it an easy choice for a laid-back movie night.
How to get there: Ride the 1 Line to Shoreline South/148th Station, then walk north along 5th Ave NE toward 165th Street. It’s about a mile from the station — an easy stroll or quick bike ride through Shoreline’s quiet neighborhoods.
NW Film Forum
Nearest station: Capitol Hill Station (1 Line)
Address: 1515 12th Ave, Seattle
For the true cinephiles, NW Film Forum is a nonprofit arts space screening independent, experimental, and international films you won’t see anywhere else. It’s also home to local filmmaker events and festivals year-round.
How to get there: From Capitol Hill Station, walk east along Pine Street and then south on 12th Ave — about 10 minutes through one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
Some of these theaters are hosting the "Twilight" Saga marathon and will screen "Wicked: For Good" when it premieres in November.
