The At-Grade Crossing Program includes all operating and future planned Link lines and Sound Transit-owned Sounder crossings.
At-grade crossings are designated crossings where a road or path crosses the railway on the same level. We establish processes that follow industry standards and best practices with a goal of continuous safety improvement.

A safe community is a strong community, and "at-grade crossings" are critical points where safety, mobility, and connectivity intersect.

Sound Transit's first annual community Safety Fair, held at Odessa Brown Children's Clinic.
The 2025 community Safety Fair included participation by communty and transportation organizations and a celebrity appearance by the Seattle Storm's Doppler!
To reach a wide range of light rail users, the At-Grade Crossing Program took over Stadium Station with reminders to "Look out for each other" and other crossing safety messages.
Sound Transit Ambassadors helped share crossing safety reminders and gear during Rail Safety Week.
In June 2025, the Sound Transit Board approved and formally adopted the At-Grade Crossing Master Plan.
Trackway pavement markings were added to increase visibility of light rail tracks where they intersect roadways to warn people driving, walking, and rolling not to stop too close or travel within the buffer zone.
To increase awareness of approaching trains, flashing signs were added.
"LOOK" pavement markings were applied throughout the Rainier Valley to increase awareness of the presence of light rail vehicles at areas where pedestrian walkways cross the tracks.
