One region, one really good idea: new PugetPass to be used by five Puget Sound transit systems

From North Bend to Stanwood to Graham and nearly everyplace in between, the new PugetPass will get you there. The PugetPass - created through the partnership of Sound Transit, Pierce Transit, King County Metro, Community Transit and Everett Transit - will be honored region-wide by all five transit agencies. The passes go on sale August 15 and will be accepted for use on September 1.

Sound Transit Board Chair and Tacoma City Councilmember Paul Miller had high praise for the five transit partners' spirit of teamwork. "PugetPass is proof that by working together, we can meet our region's transportation challenges through cooperation and with innovative, common-sense and customer-friendly solutions like the PugetPass," Miller said.

PugetPass will be in place just in time for the September 19 kick-off of nine of Sound Transit's new ST Express limited-stop bus routes serving the communities of Auburn, Bellevue, Bothell, Burien, Everett, Federal Way, Kent, Kirkland, Lakewood, Lynnwood, Renton, Seattle, SeaTac, Tacoma and West Seattle. Over the next few years a strategic network of at least 18 new ST Express bus routes will be in operation serving communities throughout Sound Transit's three-county district.

For Sound Transit's ST Express service, the monthly unlimited-trip PugetPass will be available in seven prices ranging from $18 for a one-zone pass for seniors and people with disabilities to $82.50 for a three-zone pass.

Sound Transit is on track to implement a three-county region-wide transit system plan known as Sound Move. Approved by voters in 1996, Sound Move will be a seamless blend of three regional transportation systems. Along with ST Express, Sound Move includes Sounder commuter trains, running 82 miles from Everett to Tacoma/Lakewood; Link light rail consisting of a 21-mile line connecting the cities of SeaTac, Tukwila and Seattle and a 1.6 mile line in Tacoma; and Regional Express with numerous new or improved transit centers, park-and-ride lots and improved high-occupancy vehicle lane access throughout the region.
