Sound Transit to host open house on Roosevelt Station design

Sound Transit will hold an open house on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Roosevelt High School Commons, 1410 N.E. 66th St., to seek public feedback on the design for the Northgate Link Extension Roosevelt Station. The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m.

The station, now at 90 percent design completion, will be located in the Roosevelt neighborhood along the west side of 12th Avenue Northeast between Northeast 65th and Northeast 67th streets. The station will include a plaza with seating, public art and bike parking.  

Roosevelt Station is one of three stations that will serve the Northgate Link Extension that voters approved in the 2008 Sound Transit 2 ballot measure. The $2.1 billion dollar project will connect the University of Washington Station at Husky Stadium to a 4.3-mile extension that will operate underground to the U District Station at Northeast 45th Street and Brooklyn Avenue Northeast, and Roosevelt Station at Northeast 65th Street and 12th Avenue Northeast, before emerging at the Maple Leaf Portal at Northeast 94th Street between Interstate 5 and the First Avenue Northeast. Trains continuing north will travel on an elevated guideway to Northgate Station at Northeast 103rd Street at Northgate Mall.  

Roosevelt Station riders will board trains underground from entrances at Northeast 65th Street and at Northeast 67th Street. Entrances include elevators, escalators and stairs. The light rail station will offer a four-minute Link ride to Northgate Mall, a 10-minute ride to downtown, a 44-minute ride to Sea-Tac Airport, and connections to several King County Metro bus routes. The extension is scheduled to open in 2021.
