Shop, eat, and explore at Freighthouse Square in Tacoma

Publish Date

Looking for a place where global flavors, local art, vintage treasures, and small businesses all share one roof? Head to the Freighthouse Marketplace in Freighthouse Square in Tacoma’s Dome District.

Originally built in 1909 as a railroad freight station, the historic building now stretches more than three city blocks and houses a vibrant mix of restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and specialty shops. Whether you're hunting for a unique gift, meeting friends for lunch, or exploring Tacoma for the day, it’s an easy stop packed with local character.

As Sound Transit plans the Tacoma Dome Link Extension, we’re staying connected with the Freighthouse Square community and the small businesses inside. We know people have questions about what the project could mean for the future of Freighthouse Square, including how it might affect the character of this historic building and its overall presence in the community.

The Sound Transit Board identified a preferred alternative in June 2025, and a final decision is expected after the Final Environmental Impact Statement is published, anticipated in 2027. In the meantime, the shops and restaurants inside Freighthouse Square remain open, so stop by, grab a bite, and keep showing these small businesses your support.

A global food court under one roof

One of Freighthouse Square’s biggest draws is its international food court. With cuisines from around the world, it’s easy to turn a quick visit into a full culinary adventure.
