A rendering of a Link train crossing a bridge to West Seattle

All engines go on the West Seattle Link Extension project!

Take a flyover virtual tour on the future 3 Line and learn how the project continues to progress through final design and towards construction.

The West Seattle Link Extension team is building momentum with a flyover virtual tour of the future 3 Line, starting from a new, reconstructed station at SODO, and then traveling to the Alaska Junction Station in West Seattle.

This virtual tour represents the project’s progress in reaching the 30% design milestone in July. This video invites future passengers to imagine their commute on the 3 Line when it opens in 2035, with views of Mount Rainier and the Duwamish River as you travel from SODO to Delridge alongside the West Seattle Bridge. The tour also shows the future station areas’ pedestrian infrastructure and bus connections.

The video renders project design decisions through July 2026 into a 3D model that includes site-specific geotechnical information gathered through fieldwork. Check out those soil layers as the train travels through the tunnel to Alaska Junction – they represent real-world soil conditions!

When the 3 Line connects to the regional light rail network, travel time between Alaska Junction and Westlake will drop from approximately 30 minutes to about 16 minutes. Future riders will not only reach downtown Seattle faster but will also benefit from shorter travel times to destinations throughout the region.

Video renderings like this help project design teams visualize design decisions and communicate across the teams collaborating through the design process. These groups include architecture, permitting, sustainability, passenger experience, accessibility, construction, and more,  including partners like the City of Seattle.

While this video rendering focuses specifically on design along the West Seattle Link Extension alignment and its stations, we also continue to coordinate with our agency partners who are planning improvements to streets and neighborhoods across the project areas.

We look forward to engaging with you in the months ahead, continuing to discuss our progress into final design, and collecting your feedback as we move closer to the start of construction.
