reel icon Eight things to know about the updated ST3 System Plan 🚆 Yesterday, the Sound Transit Board of Directors adopted an updated ST3 System Plan to guide the agency’s next phase of voter-approved transit expansion across the region. This was a critical step forward in the Enterprise Initiative, the comprehensive effort launched a year ago to address rapidly rising capital and operating costs and affordably deliver the objectives of the ST3 program. Since voters approved ST3 in 2016, unprecedented inflation and cost pressures have created significant impacts on large capital programs, contributing to an estimated $34.5 billion funding gap over the next 20 years. The updated System Plan helps set a more sustainable trajectory by incorporating cost savings across the agency, identifying new revenue sources, and establishing updated financial policies while continuing to advance voter-approved projects. reel icon New artwork is coming to Kent/Des Moines Station! 🚉 🎨 Beginning Monday, Sound Transit’s Art Program will install “Hand Me Downs,” a suspended sculpture by Tacoma artist Christopher Paul Jordan @cpauljordan , in the KDM garage lobby. To minimize passenger impacts, installation will take place overnight May 25–29 from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Riders may notice temporary activity in and around the garage lobby during these hours. The artist has created a sculpture inspired by Highline College students exploring cultural resilience with fabric as a metaphor. Jordan’s public artwork has been commissioned by organizations including Seattle Art Museum, the City of Tacoma and Sound Transit. We can’t wait for riders to experience this new addition to the station!
