Traffic impacts during the week of April 1
The contractor continues to work on utilities at South 11th Street east of Martin Luther King Jr. Way. In the Stadium District, crews will do potholing in the alley off of North 1st Street. The contractor is doing underground electrical work on Commerce Street near the 705 onramp. Lane closures continue on Commerce Street, North 1st Street and Stadium Way. Crews continue creating foundations for power poles along Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Where
South 11th Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Way to J Street – lane restrictions. The contractor is installing stormwater pipes underground on the north side of South 11th Street in between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and J Street. Two-way traffic is maintained on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 11th Street.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way in between 15th Street and Division – lane restrictions. Crews are creating pole foundations, including saw cutting and potholing on Martin Luther King Jr. Way between 15th Street and Division Avenue. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
North 1st Street from G Street to Yakima Avenue – northbound lane closure. North 1st Street is open to one-way traffic from Tacoma Avenue to Yakima Avenue. The northbound lane on North 1st Street is closed between G Street and Yakima Avenue. The alley off of North 1st Street near Columbia Bank is closed for potholing work. The stormwater work on North 1st Street is on hold, while new stormwater structures come in. In the meantime, the contractor opened up more parking on North 1st Street.
Commerce Street: 7th Street to 705 – lane closure. The southbound lane on Commerce Street is closed in between the 705 exit and 7th Street The northbound lane is open to access the 705 onramp and Stadium Way. The contractor is doing electrical and traffic signal work.
Stadium Way: southbound lane closure; use detours. Southbound on Stadium Way continues to be closed to traffic from Broadway to South 4th Street. Please follow the detours on Street Helens Avenue, Broadway and Tacoma Avenue. One-way traffic going north on Stadium Way is open. The contractor is working on both water and storm drainage systems. Tacoma Public Utilities is connecting customers to the new water service.
Preview of construction starting the week of April 8
Starting the week of April 8, underground utility work will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Way from Division Avenue to 6th Street. The contractor will start with the section along MLK Jr. Way from Division to 3rd Street near Kaiser Permanente.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way from Division to 3rd Street – intersection closure at 3rd Street. The Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 3rd Street intersection will be temporarily closed to install a water line. The traffic lane on the east side of MLK Jr. Way near Kaiser Permanente also will be closed. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. To access the Kaiser Permanente parking garage, follow J Street to 3rd Street. Access to Kaiser’s front driveway is available from 3rd Street.
During the week of April 8, the contractor will continue working on utilities at the Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 11th Street intersection. There may be lane closures on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 11th Street near this work. We’ll provide more information soon.
