Fitness programs increase employees' health, happiness and productivity

Sound Transit has been recognized by the American Heart Association as a Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite.

The designation is the association's highest recognition for organizations that go above and beyond when it comes to their employees' health.

"One of the ways Sound Transit strives for excellence is by helping our employees stay healthy and productive," said Sound Transit Deputy CEO Mike Harbour. "Our progressive human resources team recognizes that healthy people not only lead happier lives but work more productively and reduce healthcare costs."

Sound Transit offers an array of programs and amenities that include lunchtime health and fitness classes, access to a gym and locker room facilities that help people bike, walk and run to and from work. Employees regularly receive e-mails and newsletters on health issues, and an annual health and wellness fair provides an array of resources, including an American Heart Association Worksite Wellness Kit that puts particular focus on promoting walking and other exercise.
